Duran Contemporain is pleased to present Strata, the first solo exhibition in Montreal by London-based artist Kristina Chan. The exhibition runs from August 16 to September 6, 2025, and brings together a selection of etchings and photographs that have not been previously shown in North America, along with one new photographic work.

Kristina Chan’s practice explores the relationship between landscape, memory, and time through the mediums of printmaking and photography. Her work is grounded in research-based fieldwork and historical techniques, reflecting on how the marks of time—both natural and constructed—shape our understanding of place. In Strata, layers of material and image evoke traces of presence and transformation across various geographies.

The exhibition includes a series of photogravures and pigment prints created over several years, many of which have been exhibited in the United Kingdom and Europe. These works reflect an ongoing interest in visualizing impermanence and the quiet tension between permanence and erosion. The inclusion of a single recent photograph introduces a new direction within Chan’s evolving approach.

Kristina Chan’s work has been presented internationally at institutions such as Canada House in London, the Royal Academy of Arts, and Kunsthalle Hamburg. Her pieces are part of several public and private collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum. She has participated in research-based residencies in France, Norway, and Japan, and has completed commissions in urban and rural contexts across Europe.
